I was 19 when I started my journey of supporting people through weight loss. It was at a chain business called “Quick Weight Loss Center” in Houston, Tx. My college professor suggested I apply for a job there as I was a born counselor with an aptitude for science. He was right. The clients came in and were randomly assigned to whoever was on duty for their weekly visit. Soon, many of them began asking for me and adjusted their schedules to mine. Some of my clients, all adults much older than me, were ones with the most traumatic experiences and difficult situations: relational abuse survivors, including physical violence, sexual abuse, incest, emotional abuse, neglect and childhood traumas too graphic to mention. Admittedly, I was a bit in over-my-head as my young self listened with compassion and gentle witnessing of their stories.
In research, at that time, I found that 80% of people struggling with obesity were victims of childhood abuse. Today, research suggests an increase in prevalence of childhood abuse in those with obesity rises up to 100%. These numbers are staggering, compassion inducing and indicative of the need for a new approach to weight loss to include long term health transformation and an extensive focus on emotional healing and grief and trauma processing.
After a year at the center, my boss, a stocky/stout woman in her mid/late forties told me I needed to lose weight to keep up the image of the business. Mind you, I had struggled a “normal amount” in the era of extremely skinny models, fat phobia and shaming. My body type in Ayurveda is Pitta/Kapha, but presents as Kapha forward, which means I’m curvy and a little squishy by nature. By no means though, was I unhealthy in weight, appearance, communication or manner. Nonetheless, I thought it might be good to engage the dietary plan we were prescribing to people.
Headaches, irritability and bowel discomfort ensued and set me on an extended scholarly and experimental journey towards health, rather, healing and ever deepening curiosity into the nature of mind and ultimately, miraculous healing. Also, after about 5 days on the diet I had lost 10 lbs.
This sudden slimming was due to water weight, metabolic rate of a 20 yr. old and the sudden extreme caloric deficit. However, I learned some tricks and treats to tweak this ridiculously unhealthy approach and created a healthy version powerhouse to jump start weight loss, sluggish metabolism and motivation for a longer journey towards optimum health, a feel great weight and a loved and woken up emotional body. The extended journey is The Slimmerveda Program.
This little 1 Week Morsel is just a small offering of what I learned from that experience. This works best for those seeking a quick shift to get into that event attire or wanting motivation to make lifestyle changes towards a healthier goal. It is not for anyone dealing with health issues. It works best for those in their 20’s and 30’s and shouldn’t be followed for longer than detailed in the mini program.
Once I complete this offering, it will be available by donation to the early birds. Send an email to slimmerveda@gmail.com to get it early.
