Wealthy, Healthy, Beautiful, Fertile, Loving, Warm, Kind, Sensual
Are any of these the words that come to mind when we think about Obesity? I hope so, because these words represent 1000’s of years of various cultural perspectives around having ample fat cells. And, I think it is time to celebrate that there’s been an overall welcoming of a “come as you are” mindset and an “out with the old regime” of the fashion designers who liked the Ultra-Vata (wind and ether) body type for their clothes and pictures that invariably shaped the western worlds perception of beauty and left the rest of us Kapha peeps fighting for cues of our own beauty, worthiness and respectability. So, kudos to Millenials and Gen-Z-ites for helping the Gen-X-ers as well as Gen Alpha and our future generations to come with this upgrade in perspective and a much higher awareness. That’s a fantastic cultural shift that will continue to resonate.
So, how’s your personal perspective? Think about it before reading on, and if you feel comfortable sharing, please do so in the comment section and then read the rest of the article and then go back and let me know if there has been any shift in your mind, heart, attitude or any other aspect of self perception and comment again about that. I will respond, as this is an interactive blog with a real person over here!
My hunch is that most of us are still struggling with difficult emotions, body image, shame, maybe depression, worthiness, self love, self care, belonging… even sometimes feeling like the world doesn’t see us, welcome us, respect us, want us…. we may feel like the least important person in the room on any given occasion. Or sometimes, we may feel like we have to put on faces, personas and various hats just to get through the day or week, depending on who we are seeing. Ugh, I’m exhausted even typing that out! If you feel some of these things, you are not alone, friend! And, it’s also not your fault.
Obesity needs a better word here, for today, for this article, let’s insert various words! LMK if you think of any to share! Because of my Ayurvedic background, let’s start with…
Kaphaliciousness, they say, is generally a result of either a medical condition, sedentary lifestyle, genetics or socioeconomic factors. When googling the causes of Extra-Voluptuousness there are 20 further reasons. Not one of them states Trauma, Depression, Loss, Grief, Emotional Overload, or Lack of Support. But, in 20+ years of coaching, counseling, ministering and listening to clients speak about their lives, these are the factors I see the most as being the main factors of imbalance which maybe, depending on ones constitution, could be some excess numbers of Meda Dhatu or fat tissue/cells, (the literal translation: Meda: thick water or oil, Dhatu: roots). What causes these Roots to grow Thick in Water or Oil and hold so much for us? That’s a very different question. One thing for sure, Kapha is the strongest Dosha with Pitta Kapha being the strongest constitution. Those Thick Water Roots are sustaining, life giving, nurturing and strong. Kaphaluptuousness peeps have a lot of juicy roots that have grown out of life’s varied experiences. Respect for that, compassion and a deep acknowledgement of wisdoms gained.
Often we tend to beat ourselves up for our strong, thick water roots. But, that isn’t what we are really upset about. In my experience, it is really about not loving ourselves up and taking good care of ourselves that we are most upset about. Often the reasons we don’t engage in self love have to do with how others have treated us. This, my dear, is also not your fault. Other times, maybe we have hurt others and have shame keeping us from healing and loving ourselves. This one is so deep and difficult. I rarely find people, articles or research talking specifically about processing shame and guilt, but I’ve had to learn this one too, and the lessons were intensely painful. The other most common angle is deep loss, which could be of many various threads of experience. Those thick oil roots are actually a source of healing for you when you are ready to tend to them.
There are also other reasons we don’t engage in self care and those reasons are generally becuase:
1. We haven’t given ourselves permission to.
And/or…
2. We don’t know how to with any real sense of lasting benefit.
If you fall into one of these categories, you are in the right place! If you fall into a different category, please let me know what that category is!!!
So what happens when….
There’s a phenomenon that happens in my clients over and over and I think, it is because of this process I’m about to explain. Please read this with an open mind, because while some modern scientists haven’t yet acknowledged this, there are thousands of years of research from all over the world that does acknowledge this: memories, emotions, toxins and experiences are stored in the various cells and tissues of the body. And, when clients wanting to reduce their excess thick water roots start to love up and care for themselves, this bringing oneself into greater balance naturally results in weight loss. And, when the Meda Dhatu becomes activated, memories of past events begin to surface as they are moving and flushing from the system. Toxins also begin moving and that is what causes a Herxheimer’s type of reaction, as well.
I bring this up because it’s not easy. It’s so not easy in fact, that this is why we avoid it for as long as we do, to avoid the discomfort and pain, fearing depression that may set in if we dip in our toe and start to again and then turn back because of a set back… I know it in myself, I see it in others and it is just part of our human nature to avoid pain; even projected, perceived or anticipated pain. And, often that pain isn’t as difficult as the anticipation and avoidance of it.
The good news is that you’re not alone. There are hundreds of women that I know personally who have given themselves permission to welcome the healing and found the strength to warrioress through their own mind patterns to create change and become a different version of themselves with intention. Balance is the goal, health is the goal, compassion and kindness towards self is the goal, healing the body, heart, mind, past and present is the goal. Seeing oneself from a perspective of love, without projecting onto oneself is the goal.
There are byproducts to a journey of balance. The byproducts I see through The Slimmerveda Program are consistent: clear skin, shining eyes, bright minds and slimmer, stronger, healthier bodies, and a stronger mental, emotional, spiritual foundation. And, it all begins with giving yourself permission to heal, to change and to find your strength. Whether you work with me and The Slimmerveda Program or choose another path, this permission to yourself is the first step. Finding a clear pathway forward and support along the way is key.
Some tips to help begin:
- Journaling: there are countless approaches and benefits to journaling. Whether its a log where you take notes on emotions, foods/drinks, triggers, etc. or more of a reflective nature, journaling is of immense benefit. Journaling has been found to be one of the fastest ways to help heal trauma.
- Collage: just cutting out pictures, words, patterns, colors or anything you are drawn to and arranging them on a piece of posterboard, paper, cardboard, etc. can bring serenity to your day. Often, engaging in a creative project like this with no agenda or intention of outcome can have a tremendous positive effect on our ability to process emotion.
- Newness: this one is open to exploration! The brain responds to “new”, so even taking alternate routes to and from work or going to a different grocery store, or shopping in the opposite direction, or taking a drive or walk someplace that has caught your eye. Even using opposite hands for an easy task like putting up dishes. Anything that can shake up your regular patterns in a gentle or fun way will help you start to make other healthy, loving or necessary changes.
- Adding good things: “Sipping warm water is a medicine in itself.,” Tibetan Medicine Proverb. Hydration with either alkaline water, herbal teas or fresh low sugar juices will give you a boost. As well, when you make healthy choices in any direction, it signals your mind to keep making choices from a fresh perspective each day.
- Take some time to retreat! If you are interested in how to make time for yourself to retreat, let me know in the comments! I created worksheets for myself when I needed to make some real changes in my life and they would be a great resource if any of you are interested.
Making changes is like exercising a muscle, so take advantage of the strength it brings you! Be willing to let go of any destructive patterns of mind, body, speech, thought and give yourself permission, time and compassion!
And, of course, if you would like some personal guidance or the experience of our health and weight transformational journey, don’t hesitate! You can email through the contact page or call & text here: (505) 303-0675.

This was a article. I saw myself all through it. The strong desire to not bring up hard things and let them lie really hit! I’ve never wanted to ‘deal and feel’. In nursing school we spent a little time on the process of heart transplant and the immense/intense psychological counseling required before being elected for receipt of a heart. We talked about the recipient having changes that reflected the donor. Very fascinating and thought provoking.
I hope to meet you sometime, you are so interesting. I hope ever to be able to go through your program!!! :).
